What to know about the CPCT typing test

Practice sites and coaching pages commonly describe separate English and Hindi typing tests of about 15 minutes each, with a net speed requirement around 30 WPM for English. For Hindi, figures of 20 and 25 net WPM are quoted in different places, which is why you should confirm the current number on the official CPCT portal.

Rules change between exams, posts and years. Always check the speed, duration, language and keyboard layout in your official notification before relying on any practice tool.

Practice approach

  • Practise English and Hindi on alternate days.
  • Aim for accuracy first - net speed counts wrong words.
  • Do the 15-minute run daily in the last two weeks.
  • Use the speed graph to see where mistakes cluster and drill those keys.

Hindi part

Use the Hindi exam typing test for the Hindi side. It runs on the Inscript layout. Some candidates practise on Remington Gail instead; if that is your layout, check your exam rules and practise on a tool that supports it.
