CPCT Typing Test Preparation: English and Hindi

The Computer Proficiency Certification Test (CPCT), run for Madhya Pradesh government recruitment, includes typing tests alongside computer-knowledge questions. This guide summarises how candidates usually prepare for the typing part.

⚠️ Details change from one CPCT cycle to the next. Check the current instructions on the official CPCT portal (cpct.mp.gov.in) and in the recruitment advertisement before you rely on any figure here.

What the typing section looks like

Preparation sites commonly describe two separate typing tests, English and Hindi, each lasting about 15 minutes, where you type a displayed passage and the software calculates a net speed after counting mistakes. Commonly quoted qualifying speeds are about 30 net WPM in English and about 20 to 25 net WPM in Hindi; because sources disagree, treat these as planning targets and verify the current rule.

Which keyboard layout for Hindi?

This is the question that confuses most candidates. Hindi typing in exams has historically been associated with the Remington (Gail) layout, while the modern government standard for Unicode typing is Inscript. Unofficial sources mention both, and the Mangal font for the passage. Check which layout the portal instructions allow, and practise on that layout. Read more in our guide to Inscript vs Remington vs Kruti Dev.

Net speed and mistakes

As in other exam typing tests, a wrong or missing word reduces your net speed, so accuracy is worth more than raw speed. Aim for 95% or better at your practice pace, then add speed. If you make more than a few mistakes per minute, slow down.

Two-week routine

  • Days 1-3: English lessons and home-row accuracy. Hindi lessons on the Inscript home row if that is your layout.
  • Days 4-8: alternate English and Hindi 5-minute tests daily; fix weak keys with Smart Practice.
  • Days 9-13: one 15-minute test per language, strict mode, every day.
  • Day 14: light revision and rest.

Use our CPCT-style 15-minute English mock and the Hindi exam typing test. They imitate the style but are not the real exam software.

Final tips

  • Practise with the keyboard type you will use at the centre.
  • Do not stop to fix a typo several words back; keep going.
  • Keep your posture relaxed; shoulders high means slower fingers.
