DSSSB Typing Test Practice

DSSSB typing test at a glance

DSSSB notices set the computer typing standard for clerical posts and give the equivalent in key depressions per hour. It is a qualifying skill test in the notices we read.

Key depressions per hour (KDPH) are simply WPM x 5 x 60: 35 WPM = 10,500 KDPH (English), 30 WPM = 9,000 KDPH (Hindi).

How the test is evaluated

DSSSB publishes the skill test standard in its advertisements and circulars. Use the advertisement of your post - it can change between recruitments.

  • The notices express speed through key depressions (5 per word), so what counts is correct typed characters over the time allowed.
  • Mistakes reduce the net figure; the exact formula is in the notice of each recruitment.
  • Candidates who need a scribe may get extra time in some boards' tests; we found no DSSSB-specific figure, so check the notice.

Hindi typing, fonts and layouts

The Hindi typing test on this site has Inscript, Remington GAIL and Kruti Dev 010 built in. Check which layout your board names in the notification and choose the same one under "Hindi keyboard"; see our guide Inscript vs Remington vs Kruti Dev. For exam-style practice use the Hindi typing exam practice.

  • The 2019 DSSSB notice we read says Hindi typing is in Kruti Dev font with a normal English keyboard provided.
  • Some preparation sites mention Inscript for Hindi; the board's notice decides.
  • English typing uses the normal QWERTY keyboard.

How to prepare for the DSSSB typing test

  1. Learn touch typing first and reach 30 WPM at 95% accuracy.
  2. Add the data entry typing test for numbers and symbols.
  3. From week 3 take a strict 10-minute run daily and compare your net speed with 35 WPM.
  4. If Hindi is required in Kruti Dev, practise on that layout with a tool that supports it.

What this practice page does and does not do

  • It runs a strict 10-minute test with backspace switched off, like most government typing tests.
  • The result shows key depressions, wrong words, gross and net speed and checks your net speed against the 35 WPM target used for this page.
  • It is an independent practice tool. The real exam software, passage, font and error rules are the board's own.
  • Typing text is built from general English sentences, not from past papers.
