UP Police typing test at a glance

Typing tests apply to posts such as ASI Clerk, SI Confidential Assistant, Accountant and Computer Operator - not to constable posts. Figures below are the ones most guides agree on; the board's notification decides.

WhatCommonly quoted
Speed30 WPM in English and 25 WPM in Hindi
DurationMost sources say 15 minutes per language; one listing for the Computer Operator post says 10 minutes (unconfirmed)
PassageAbout 500 English / 400 Hindi words (approximate, from guides)
Accuracy85% is the figure quoted by several guides
NatureQualifying in the guides we read

Key depressions per hour (KDPH) are simply WPM x 5 x 60: 30 WPM = 9,000 KDPH (English), 25 WPM = 7,500 KDPH (Hindi).

How the test is evaluated

Duration and rules differ between UPPRPB recruitments (SI/ASI clerk vs Computer Operator). Read the typing test notice and admit card of your recruitment on uppbpb.gov.in.

  • You type the passage shown on screen; speed is measured in words per minute after mistakes are accounted for.
  • Several guides quote a required accuracy of 85% for both languages.
  • Because the passage is about 500 words and the clock is 15 minutes, you need a steady pace through the whole passage rather than a fast start.

Hindi typing, fonts and layouts

The Hindi typing test on this site has Inscript, Remington GAIL and Kruti Dev 010 built in. Check which layout your board names in the notification and choose the same one under "Hindi keyboard"; see our guide Inscript vs Remington vs Kruti Dev. For exam-style practice use the Hindi typing exam practice.

  • Guides mention a Hindi test in Unicode font with Inscript for some cycles; check your notice.
  • English typing uses the normal QWERTY keyboard.

How to prepare for the UP Police typing test

  1. Weeks 1-2: touch typing with the lessons, then 5-minute tests daily.
  2. Weeks 3-4: a strict 15 minute typing test every day to build stamina.
  3. Practise Hindi on the Hindi exam practice page if your cycle uses Inscript.
  4. In the last week simulate the exam: same time of day, same keyboard, no corrections.

What this practice page does and does not do

  • It runs a strict 15-minute test with backspace switched off, like most government typing tests.
  • The result shows key depressions, wrong words, gross and net speed and checks your net speed against the 30 WPM target used for this page.
  • It is an independent practice tool. The real exam software, passage, font and error rules are the board's own.
  • Typing text is built from general English sentences, not from past papers.
